Some Mindblowing Clouds

Clouds #3Ever see anything like this?
Jorn Olsen works for the Dutton-Lainson Co. In Hastings , Nebraska , and lives by Heartwell Park next to Hastings College.
The other night he took these photos. The stadium lights are at the Hastings College stadium just east of his home. The clouds are called Mammatus clouds.Clouds #2

They do not precede a tornado, or foretell a storm, but are formed when the air is already saturated with rain droplets and/or ice crystals and begins to sink. The worst of the storm is usually over when these kinds of clouds are seen. They are quite rare, but really beautiful.

Musique

Yesterday I was considering the role that music plays in my life. Not a role. The role. If you know me at all, you’ll know that I find it extremely hard to go without music, and its almost impossible for me to work without it. Though someone once told me that they hate music. They hate the way it can alter their mood, and make them feel depressed when there is no reason to feel that way. I do agree to some extent; listening to an overdose of Kelly Clarkson can be hazardous to your emotional health. It might even cause you to slit your wrists, but somehow, I NEED music to live.

My playlists consist of anything from Enya to Limp Bizkit, and sometimes some “Club Anthems” & Alicia Keys in between. I don’t know how healthy it is to depend on one thing so much, that my life seems ‘empty’ when its missing, but I suppose it hasn’t caused too much harm thus far. Wherever I go, when I’m working, driving (behold - I sing ALONG?!?!?), at home, or even visiting with friends, my music is ALWAYS there. Whether it be on my iPod / Computer or whoever else’s equipment, it just HAS to be there.

Am I the only one living with this absurd fetish??

What Am I Drinking?

Famous Queens Tea Even I cannot keep track of this - what AM I drinking?
A while back I had this CRAVING for Green Tea, and though I do still drink Green Tea, I’ve made a change.
Apart from the 8 cups of 100% pure coffee I drink each day, I somehow still find the time, and space in my stomach, to drink some sort of tea.
I came across “Famous Queens Tea” recently, and though I’ve tasted it before, I haven’t bought for myself until Monday.
The reason why I bought the tea? It has a nice box :P Apart from that, it tastes great, and also!
[Now, for the more important information]

Famous Queens Tea (made by Holotropic) contains, Hibiscus, Mint, and Rosehip
This combination is apparently anti-aging, anti-oxidant, and, I quote “complement a woman’s subtle needs through all stages of her life”
Rosehips contain many vital mineral nutrients such a calcium, silica, magnesium and phosphorus. Although Rosehips are famous for their disease-fighting properties, detoxifying relaxing and stress-relieving benefits, they also provide safe, natural assistance in keeping the bones strong and sturdy.
Hibiscus & Mint, to complement the elegant nature of Rosehips, Holotropic has added the magical touch of tropical hibiscus blossoms to revitalise and refresh the feminine psyche, plus a delicate hint of mint to soothe the digestion and calm the mind.

This tea is a real good alternative to green tea for me - though its not the same, its a good variation if you get bored with flavours easily. Also, Holotropic teas seem to be a South African product? Or at least their offices and so forth are based in South Africa!? Pretty cool hey? If you like flavoured teas, you should really try this! You can even order it on their website ( http://www.holotropic.co.za ), or just get it from your nearest Dischem store :)

Art & Engineering?

The StrandbeestI recently found the story about Theo Jansen, a Dutch artist & kinetic sculptor. In my frame of reference engineering & art don’t really go together, but this man has proved that this which my mind couldn’t even have dreamed of when I was a kid, could actually be brought into real life.Strandbeest be Theo Jansen

The ‘Strandbeest’ (literally meaning Beach Beast) as he calls it is something I see as the most amazing, awesome man-made creation I’ve seen in a very long time, and maybe even ever. I suppose it could be that this falls right into my taste - a type of invention that would always facinate me, but this is something that I can stare at in wonder.

If you want to view the complete video clip of this truely remarkable creation, here you go:

[googlevideo=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8316216131133516326]

(If the video is not displayed above THIS text, click here to view)

I really recommend that you look at this video clip - You cannot imagine what this ‘beast’ looks like when its in motion…

Dusty Window Art

Window Art #1
As a kid there was nothing like dragging your finger across the dirty back window of your mom’s minivan. Imagine lifting your finger to find you’ve created a Mona Lisa on the rear glass. Scott Wade of San Marcos, TX is perhaps the only person who could say he’s done this.Window Art #2Living on an unpaved road ensures that the back glass of Wade’s MINI Cooper always has a willing canvas. In addition to his fingers, Wade also uses more traditional tools like brushes as well as unconventional ones like popsicle sticks to create his inspired dust art. One of the pics below shows his homage to Van Gogh’sStarry Night‘ and the image above, Da Vinci’sMona Lisa‘.
Follow the jump for more of Wade’s work including a recreation of C.M. Coolidge’sA Friend in Need‘ (a.k.a. dogs playing poker)

Top 10 All-Time Favourite Songs

I’m trying to compile a list of some of my all time favourite songs, but my memory really sucks with all this. I can name a few, but I’ld like to have a “Top Ten” list. Please leave your suggestions - even if its your all time favourite song - it might just be one of mine. One that definately gets a five star rating on my list is Iris by The Googoo Dolls…. I know there’s a whole bunch more, but somehow I can’t match the lyics, and the tunes with the artists & the song titles :P
