How Sad
How sad is this?
Zagreb - A Croatian man lay dead for eight years in his flat in downtown Zagreb before a neighbour discovered the body, a local newspaper reported on Wednesday.Ivan Bosanac, born in 1918, went missing in February 1999. His nephew reported his absence to the police, which conducted a brief search of the small attic flat - located just off Zagreb’s main square - but found nothing.
“The flat was full of garbage, literally up to the roof. The policeman had a look inside and concluded there was nobody there,” the nephew, Drazen Bosanac, told the Jutarnji List daily.
Eight years later the next door neighbour, Sasa Mersinjak, decided to clean up the place.
“I put my gloves on and, after digging through the rubble for an hour, I found the body, bare bones covered in a winter coat,” Mersinjak said.
“The flat smelled really bad all these years, but I had always thought it was because of that heap of garbage inside.”

3 commentsYes yes,… Oh Yay!
Its finally starting to warm up in South Africa, and though I know that the cold weather isn’t close to over yet, its at least a sign that spring DOES still exist, and is slowly making its way to us!!!
I’m so exited about wearing summer clothes again!! I hate layering like I do in winter. For those who live abroad, you might think that it shouldn’t be so cold in South Africa as in Europe or North America, but at times our winters can get a bit worse. Not that the temperatures outside are lower, but remember, our houses aren’t half as well insulated. I don’t think that our houses are insulated at all - except maybe for those of us who have ‘think pink’ in our ceilings?
My experience in England was that as soon as I was inside I could almost wear summer clothes because the central heating was just so warm. In South Africa, even if we have heaters on (cause we don’t have central heating), we can’t walk around with summer clothes. I actually wear the same amount of layers that I would outside, and I watch television in a sleeping bag - haha… Picture that!
But this whole discussion was just to let you know HOW MUCH I’m looking forward to SWEATING. To be able to wear strappie tops and sandles and drive around with the aircon on. *sigh* Summer and winter has its pro’s and con’s, but summer is really my favourite
Oh Snap!
So I’m hooked on facebook too… Hahaha. Just to let you all know that I decided to try it out a while back, and that I’m now totally addicted to it
I found so many school friends and people who I’ve met randomly, but lost contact with. Its really really cool
I Struggle To Run Out Of News These Days
I am yet again changing jobs. This time to a job which is more like the previous position I held. I’m really excited about it, but also sad about leaving a company yet again. I was here just long enough to get used to everyone. All the people here have been incredibly kind, and have really made an effort to make me feel welcome.
But life is about growth, and growth doesn’t happen without change, so I believe that this new opportunity will be better for me. Time will only tell, but there’s no use in wondering what if. We can only make the decisions we believe to be right, and the live 100% for that decision.
I’m still continuing to work in the evenings, which is why I don’t get too much time to write. I miss it like crazy, and I WILL BE BACK. At night before I fall asleep I still think about what I should write, and though I don’t have a lack of ideas, I definitely have a lack of time.
PS. The relaxing was really great!!! Candle lit bathroom with a FULL bath, and nice smelling soaps and creams. The facial was awesome too
Till later, take care…. ![]()
Relaxation Is Important
So finally I have an evening to myself. Kind of. Tonight I’m going to spend time pampering myself with a facial and an hour in the bath with a good book.
We all need time out just for ourselves sometimes. I realize that that sounds selfish, but I reckon that people need to spend time on themselves every now and then, else they’ll be exhausted, and possibly miserable.
If you feel like a bus hit you, maybe you should consider spending some time just with yourself, doing what you love.
Here’s an interesting article from Health24 which inspired me to relax…
You have to take time out every single day to sit back, breathe deeply, relax and enjoy life in the present moment. It is important to create a gap between work and home environment. Always have mental and physical activities in your life that you enjoy. Make these pastimes separate from your work life. It reminds us to keep work in an important but appropriate place.
A bath with soothing aromatic essential oils (e.g. camomile, lavender, neroli, sandalwood); soft candlelight and gentle music will do wonders for any disturbed soul.
The following are suggestions: join a practical philosophy class, do progressive muscle relaxation exercises, meditation, yoga, pottery or painting, classical or relaxation music (nature sounds, soft, instrumental), gym, aerobic class, candlelight dinner, start a walking, wine tasting, or book club.
Remember all religions have a rich and strong history of meditation which we seem to have lost along the way as the world became materialistic and analytical. Prayer is also good for obtaining balance. Prayer is actually where you communicate with God. Meditation is where you become silent, reach your own inner strength and power and allow God to communicate with you. You don’t have to go to formal religious meetings to enrich your soul. You can practice on your own, with a group, or with your family.
Imagine your thoughts being the waves on the surface of the ocean. They go up and down as the mood, your feelings, emotions and your memory dictate. The deeper ocean is quiet, still and peaceful. This is the part you can access voluntarily any time of the day and night through meditation, visualisation, deep breathing and prayer.
I strongly recommend Dr. Herbert Benson’s Relaxation Response.
Creative visualisation is also very effective as a relaxation tool. Once you’ve relaxed as described, visualise (see in your mind’s eye) yourself in a peaceful garden. Use all your senses to experience your imaginary surroundings. Look at what you can see, taste the air, smell the grass, flowers, listen to the birds, the wind blowing through the leaves, feel the air against your skin, taste the freshness. You will often find solutions to niggling problems once you give your mind a chance to turn back into itself instead of constantly being busy with monkey chatter.
Listen to your body:
Stress-related illness would include frequent colds, depression, eczema, premenstrual tension, frequent other irritating infections, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcers, gastritis, arthritis, allergies, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, etc. Nearly all our modern day diseases have an underlying stress component. If you get frequent colds or fever blisters (cold sores), it’s time to sit up, take notice and take a break! Your immune system is showing you that you’re overdoing it.
I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Remember to relax!
Driveway.com
A wonderful new way of online file sharing!!! Its so straight forward! You select the file to be uploaded - I found that it can be pretty much any format? Correct me if I’m wrong.
You then just type in your own e-mail address, and the address to which you want to send the link, and voila.
You also get to choose whether to send the file link for read (read only), or for editing. Editing can only be done on .doc and .ppt files though, but still multiple users can edit the document, and it doesn’t have to be uploaded again!?
Decisions Decisions…
You know, being grown up is kinda tough. At times I really wish that I could go back to playing with barbies and stuff. That was just so much less complicated, and things seemed so much simpler. I was sure of what was right and wrong. What I should do. What was expected of me.
But these days things are just a bit cloudy. I’m OK with the new job. Its a very different environment from what I’m used to, but the people are kind. The work self is not ideal.
I realized that I’m just not someone who enjoys working with clients all day. I have dealt with clients before, but mostly on e-mail. Conversing with clients over the phone though, is a whole different story. Explaining to them why certain rules are there, and how I cannot bend the rules for them. Apologizing for other people’s mistakes, and cleaning up the mess.
I do have another opportunity which I’m thinking about. Its the same as I’ve done previously, and I know some of the people who work there. Its ideal, just far from home. So I’m a bit torn.
I’m sorry for neglecting this blog. I will again get myself into the habit of writig regularly. For now I have to get busy with some work. I accepted an odd filing job before I knew that I had work, and now I have to juggle both. *sigh*… I’m just sooo tired!!!
2 commentsCosmetic Chats
I usually hate cosmetic adverts… They always try to convince people that their specific product will instantly increase beauty, personality, and popularity. Why can’t they just tell you the truth about their products, and let THAT be good enough to sell it?
I hate hearing the sentence “because you’re worth it”. Its stupid. I’m worth much more than a box of hair dye or luscious lipstick?
What I have found though, is that Revlon’s cosmetics are really good. I’m not a Revlon evangelist or anything, but I like to buy things that work. If it says its quick dry nail polish, I don’t want to wait 5 minutes?
I bought their nail polish before, but again on Tuesday, and found again how effective it is. It applies perfectly, with no uneven tones, no bubbles, and it dries QUICK. I started with my right hand’s thumb, and when I reached my left hand’s pinky the right thumb was dry already!!! Now THAT’s quick dry!
I also found a sample of their lipstick in a magazine some time back, and after using it I had to buy it. Though its not colorstay, it is extremely moisturizing, which is more important to me. There’s nothing worse than to wear lipstick which dries out your lips.
So for those of you who were looking for advice on cosmetics, you just had it from my side.
For those who I bored, I’m sorry. Maybe I’ll tell you about my cool new tyres next time
Behind Schedule…
Hey!!! I missed women’s day - so sorry!!! To all the women reading here, happy belated women’s day. LOL. I had the public holiday and all, but never realized that it was actually WOMEN’S DAY. Was that only in South Africa though? I think so? I’m a bit out of sync with the dates and all - I even missed a friend’s birthday!!!
Work is going well. Different, but I’m kind of adjusting. Or it feels that way in anycase.
I really feel like going away for a weekend though. It would be so nice to just relax… *sigh*
On a different note, I found that e-bay sellers are totally oblivious to the fact that postal fees are VERY expensive when shipping to South Africa. With that I mean close to $60… Depending on the size & weight of the parcel of course.
If you’re an e-bay seller, make VERY sure that you know what the shipping is going to cost before you agree to ship to South Africa. I had someone agree, only to find out that she had to pay most of the shipping out of her own pocket, because she’d already agreed to ship at the standard international shipping rate.
Just a hint. Use it, don’t use it…
