First Christmas Decorations?

ChristmasWhen are we suppose to setup the tree? What is the right date to dig out the Christmas lights, and start decorating? Shops have been starting this earlier each year, or maybe it jut feels that way to me. I realize that they prepare people for the festive season early, and that by decorating a lot of people do their shopping well in advance, hence avoiding the rush. But September is just a bit too early, right? Logically I would say the 1st of December should be the official ‘Christmas countdown’.

When we start seeing all the decoration, we get into the whole holiday mood, and for myself, I don’t feel like work any more – after all ‘Tis the season to be jolly?’. Well I’ve been jolly since September now, and its starting to fade a bit.

I suppose Christmas will come quick enough. Next week being that last week of work for 2007 and all. But still. I need the Christmas festivities to wait just a bit longer before rolling out all the fancies!!!

Its like holding a carrot in front of a horse, and this horse is TIRED OF WAITING NOW!!!

Curtains Or Blinds?

Venetian BlindsBetween looking for a wedding dress pattern, and fabric, and table overlay fabric, I’m also starting to think about setting up the new house. And now I’m panick stricken – I don’t have curtains!!! :(

This sucks big time – I dont have the time to go and look for curtains NOW!? Maybe I should consider blinds, but then, if we decide to move, we have to go through the whole rig-ma-roll again?

Blinds are a whole lot more convenient though…

At Select Blinds, they have blinds for very reasonable prices, but still I’m unsure. I’m totally in love with their venetian blinds, but still – I’m torn :/

Straighten Up!

One very bad habit I have is to slouch. I suppose it came with the office job where I sit in front of a computer screen 8hrs per day (and sometimes an extra 3hrs at home).

Since I started gyming I found it easier to maintain a healthier posture, but still I find myself slouching at times – specially when I’m walking. Slouching At ComputerIts strange how these things change – at school I never had a problem with my posture, as I had modern dancing classes where they print it into your mind that you have to stand up straight with your shoulders back.

Why am I making such a fuss of this? First of all it gives me terrible back aches, and sometimes these turn into headaches. And secondly, it looks really sloppy. I’ve seen people who slouch so badly that they can no longer straighten up – their muscles kind of shrunk? Of course this can be changed over time, but it takes a lot of stretching, and a lot of concentration to keep yourself straightened up.

There are quite a few exercises that can be done to enhance your posture, so either Google it, or check with your trainer at the gym! Make sure you have a good chair if you are one of those who spend the majority of your time in front of a computer screen. And lastly, STRETCH – take breaks at work, and concentrate on holding a good posture!

What Makes Me Normal, & Others Weird?

I suppose its a combination of one’s background, religion, culture, morals and experiences that determine that, and of course one’s personality.

Hypnosis is not something that I feel comfortable with. You might find that its due to some of the factors listed above, and I will probably never go for hypnosis myself either. I have found however, that you can now get hypnosis downloads online. How bizarre.

HypnosisI suppose in the modern world (and maybe not so modern world as well), this is (was) used instead of psychologists – or even sometimes, BY psychologists. No more of that though. If you need help being hypnotised, you can now do it straight from your computer, in the privacy of… well, hopefully your own home – NOT YOUR OFFICE.

According to the ‘Instant Hypnosis’ website, they can help you improve your golf playing skills, relieve your allergies, as well as give you a magical charisma & enlarge your breasts!

Now, I don’t know how successful this sort of therapy is, but if you’re one who’s keen to try new things, you might do this.

Personally I stick to the old fashioned, conventional ways – I’m even a bit sceptical of psychologists!

THE THREE LITTLE PIGS

This is a true story, proving how fascinating the mind of a six year old is. They think so logically.

Three Little PigsA teacher was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to her class. She came to the part of the story where first pig was trying to gather the building materials for his home. She read…

“…And so the pig went up to the man with the wheelbarrow full of straw and said: ‘Pardon me sir, but may I have some of that straw to build my house?”

The teacher paused then asked the class:
“And what do you think the man said?”

One little boy raised his hand and said very matter of factly …”I think the man would have said -”What the hell!! A talking pig!?”

The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.

‘Tis The Season To Talk To Friends

PhoneDuring this time of year we all make special effort to get in contact with friends and family.
A lot of my family don’t live so close to me, and some even abroad, which makes it hard to phone, but since the VOIP wonder has been born, we don’t struggle with the limitation of communication so much anymore.

For those of you who don’t have access to the internet, there are calling cards. These are an effective way to keep in touch with those who are not close to you, especially those overseas!

Its also extra convenient since all the calling cards from TheRichCom are delivered online, and instantly.

Load Shedding Again

If you don’t know the Eskom story yet, here’s the short version. Eskom, South Africa’s power supplier, has recently started cutting the power, because they cannot generate enough power for the whole country, hence we’re experiencing a lot of power outages, also known as load shedding.
Yesterday, Eskom was so clever to cut their own power.

I suppose one of the most googled terms in South Africa is ‘load shedding schedule’. We’re all waiting in anticipation to see if the power does go out when scheduled. Sometimes it does, sometimes it stays on, and sometimes it goes out without being scheduled at all.Broken Light Buld

For this very reason I have become paranoid about saving all my work. My fingers are constantly hitting CTRL+S while I work.

I suppose its not a bad habit, but since CTRL+S has become such a strong habit that I try to ’save’ whilst packing lunch, or brushing my teeth, its probably not such a good thing. Its really getting to me now…

Keeping It All Safe

Online backups are becoming more and more popular. Its so much more convenient than having to carry your memory stick, or portable hard drive along.

You might know I’m close to paranoid about making backups. I have lost data before, due to my PC hard drives crashing (repeatedly), and I know the feeling of not being able to get back your photo’s or emails.

Even business documents and your CV is safe and secure with iBackup. For only $9.95 / month for 5GB you will have peace of mind, knowing that your data is safe from harm.

Some things can just never be replaced, and I strongly suggest that you keep these in a place where you know they won’t get hit by lightning, stolen, or just plain lost.

Back On Track

Okay, so here I am again! Back on the blog, and really exhausted.

Thank you for all the kind words :) Last week was really cool – fun, but still very tiring. I suppose that’s the way it goes with kids! :)

This weekend ahead is a long weekend, and I’m soooo looking forward to it. Its not good in the way that I’m really wishing the time to pass… But I just feel a bit depro at work at the moment.

Fortunately the December holidays will be starting soon too, and that will hopefully give me the break and rest that I’ve been hoping for.
