Burj Dubai Khalifa Fountain

Even though it takes a while to load this video (with an internet connection in South Africa), its well worth it!!

I posted about the “Dubai Magic“ in 2008, when this fountain was only a concept design. This week someone posted the Youtube link on Twitter, and I finally saw the end result!! How breathtakingly awesome is this? Even more amazing than the pictures in the design.Â I just can’t believe that I only saw this for the first time this week!

This fountain was built at a cost of US$217 million, this record-setting system was designed by WET Design, the California-based company responsible for the fountains at the Bellagio Hotel Lake in Las Vegas. Illuminated by 6,600 lights and 50 coloured projectors, it is 275 m (902 ft) long and shoots water 150 m (490 ft) into the air, accompanied by a range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world music. On 26 October 2008 Emaar announced that based on results of a naming contest the fountain would be called the Dubai Fountain.

Magnificent Dubai – Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building has officially been launched in an elaborate opening ceremony yesterday. Its height was announced as 828 meters.

Known during construction as Burj Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad renamed the building Burj Khalifa, in honour of United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan.
The construction of the tower, which began in 2004, “cost $1,5-billion,” Emaar chairman Mohammed Alabbar said.
Burj Khalifa has more than 200 floors, only 160 of which will be inhabited, while the remaining floors are for services.
It has a total built-up area of 5,67 million square feet, including 1,85 million square feet of residential space and more than 300 000 square feet of prime office space, Emaar said.
This amounts to 1 044 apartments and 49 floors of office space, served by 57 lifts. It also has a hotel carrying the Georgio Armani logo.

I received this set of photo’s via e-mail, and found it phenomenal to realize -yet again – the power of the human mind and the creativity thereof. These photographs resemble something which I may have dreamed of as a child – something which was so far fetched, that I could only imagine it to be part of a fairytale. I have such an appreciation for people who are not afraid to remember, and then live these dreams. Bravo for the Mexican Architect, Javier Senosiain.

If you’re looking for a vacation destination for 2009, you might just have stumbled across it now… Dubai is yet again astonishing the world with their creativity.

The fountains, which has yet to be named, will be capable of shooting water over 150 metres into the air – the height of a 50-storey building – and stretch over 275 metres – the length of two football fields.

The $218 million project will be 25 percent larger than the iconic fountains at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas

Like the Fountains of Bellagio, Emaar’s fountains will include an integral light and sound show and is expected to become one of Dubai’s major tourist attractions, drawing over 10 million visitors per year.
