April 17th, 2009 — Blog, Time, Wordpress
My blog has been neglected for quite a long time now – juts more than a year!! Even though I know that I have to update my blog regularly in order to keep a good search engine ranking, it is just not as big a priority as the rest of the things in my life.
I find it quite sad, as I easily maintained a 4/10 Page Rank while my blog was still hosted with Wordpress. However, since moving to my own domain I found it is hard work to get your ranking up, and keep it there!
My work definitely eats the biggest chunk of my day, on top of that I spend quite a lot of time in traffic each day, I have to cook and clean and wash and iron and shop…. and the list goes on.
There are always friends who I need to see, and even that, I don’t do regularly enough.
In my eyes this list pretty much fills up my time, and I cannot fathom how to fit in an extra hour for blogging each day. Strange thing I noticed though, was that I have some friends who manage to do everything which I do, and more, and they STILL have free time left?
I wonder whether these people ever sleep? Do they even just take a break, drink a cup of coffee, and read an article in the news paper? I don’t know, but they’re doing something drastically different from me.
Maybe I should try to take power naps instead of sleeping a whole 8hrs each night? Maybe I should start combining some of my chores? Not sure if that would be such a good idea, as we might end up with tile cleaner in the dinner stew…
If you have any advise which works for you, or seem plausible, feel free to share, as I’m extremely frustrated due to the lack of time in my days!

Choosing a web host doesn’t have to be as tricky as it sounds. Whenever people hear the words web host they think they need a professional to tell them what to do. Whether you’re wanting a host for your personal website, blog, or even business, you can fairly easily find a good host online by just searching for one. There’s no need to pay an excessive amount of money. There are various web hosting articles on the internet where you can read up on some of the options you have.
“If you run a business online, you want to ensure that it can run 24/7 – or you will lose out on potential profits or worse, jeopardize your whole business. The fact that the internet has this amazing capability of being there to serve anyone at any time is probably why business owners started utilizing this incredible platform in the first place.
If you want a personal website that will advertise your portfolio or services, you wouldn’t want your potential client to see a huge error page when he or she tries to access the your website via the address you provided in your name card. This could portay you as someone who is cheap and unreliable, potentially destroying any chance of getting business at all.”
The trick is, to tell a good web host from a bad one, and for most people, that’s not very easy, hence they feel that they are compelled to seek the help of a professional. Before you pay hundreds of dollars for advice which you’re not even sure you can trust, make sure to read up enough about web hosting, so that you can make a well-informed decision before tying yourself to a 12/24 month contract of unreliable hosting.

I’m really bad at following up on awards. Sorry guys (and girls). Recently Kristyn awarded me with an award, so I thought I’d better display it, before you all thought I have something against being awarded
I know, I know, it was on the 12th of Feb already, but Kristyn gave me the “Flower Smeller” banner
Thank you sooo much Kristyn
The original award is from www.gosmelltheflowers.com

I’m slightly irritated today. Our office has been without water since yesterday, and if you think a power cut was bad, consider not being able to FLUSH your toilets! Even worse, try imagining a whole building full of women, sharing three toilets, and not being able to flush. Its a disaster.
Our company bought mineral water to drink and make coffee with, but still, there’s no way of washing the dishes, washing your hands (after going to the filthy bathrooms), and there’s no way to clean ANYTHING in the office if you spilt something!
I can’t imagine why its taking them so long to fix a burst water pipe. Surely for situations like this there are people who ought to work nightshift to try and fix it? I really don’t understand why it has to take them more than 24hours? I saw the hole they dug, to fix the pipe, but there isn’t even anyone there, working on it?!
On a more positive note, you might not have noticed my new header image, as Kirstyn pointed out, she only saw it this week, and its been up for about a month! Hehehe…
If you still can’t see the bride & groom image on the header, try to refresh my blog with Ctrl+F5.
I was actually looking for a wedding Wordpress theme, but couldn’t find one that appealed to me. Most of them were very old fashioned, and reminded me a bit of a funeral – with the faded roses and all.
Just a reminder, I’ve only got 23 days left before I’m getting married – that just a bit more than 550 hours!

I recently signed up with Buzzfuse, a blog traffic service, free as most of the others.
The sign up process was hassle free, and reasonably simple. Their interface is OK – I would’nt give it a too high score though – maybe 6/10?
signed up for a basic account, which is free, but there are also paid packages, which offer a few more services.
I’m always trying out new ways to enhance the traffic flow to my blog, and I’ve had some great success with social bookmarking sites.
StumbleUpon is a huge favourite of mine, but I’m willing to give BuzzFuse a try, and I will let you know what the outcome is.

January 22nd, 2008 — Blog, Dizzy Dee, South Africa
I have my blog listed on Amatomu, a blog directory specifically for South African blogs, today, as I was checking my rank, I saw I was 11th. It wasn’t until a friend pointed it out that I saw I beat Steve Hofmeyr’s blog by 3 places!?!? Can you believe that?! For the internation readers, Steve is a local artist (quite popular too!).
Obviously I’m not a household name as he is – after all he starred in “Agter Elke Man” nearly 3 decades ago, where he stole a lot of hearts as “Bruce”. He’s also been on 7de Laan, a local soap opera (Translated … LOL… 7th Avenue? Haha, that sounds too funny!!) as the crim with whom Paula fell in love.
Well today, my blog is making history – even if its just my opinion!
I never dreamt my blog would beat “Steve se spoeg blok”.

Sticky posts are boring and irritate the living daylights out of me. I have tried it now, and I can tell you that it seriously sucks. If you were considering it, its dumb. It looks as if you don’t update your blog, and it doesn’t help much. I have made a link for the top of my widget instead which now links to the competition for the Rooibos tea. The only purpose I see for it, is if you move your blog. But then again, you wouldn’t need a sticky post, cause you wouldn’t post anymore…
Hope you all have a fabulous week!
July 13th, 2007 — Blog, Cool, Dizzy Dee, My Opinion
I have been reading so many new blogs lately. I found a couple which I have already added to my feeds. I’m always surprised by the diversity of blogs. Its incredible that there are people in every industry and walk of life who blog.
Its amazing to read everyone’s stories. I really find it quite cool. For now I have to finish up work (my usual excuse).
So if you’re looking for something to read, make sure to visit Bongi’s blog. He’s a South African “general surgeon working in the notorious South African province of Mpumalanga.” I find his bizarre stories interesting, and I’m sure you will too – especially if you’re from abroad, and you’re normal to a hospital running similar to what is portrayed in ER.
The other blog that has caught my attention is Diary of a Killer. You can read random posts, but its best to start at the beginning – its a fictional blog about a woman wanting revenge.
Hope you all have a good weekend!
