June 25th, 2007 — Bake, Creative, My Events, Sponsored, Turkish Delight, Wordpress
My weekend started last week Wednesday, hence the reason I didn’t blog much lately.
I took the three days off word because my boyfriend had to go in for an operation, and thus it wasn’t really a holiday, but I’m still glad I took the time off. I’d have hated to go through something like that on my own.
He had a minor foot opp – just mending the ligaments again, but he’s foot is in a cast for six weeks now! Pity, cause its exactly in the time that Fall Out Boy and UB40 are in South Africa! (Damn it!)
I spent Wednesday & Thursday in the hospital with him, but on Friday he came home, so then I could actually do something more than just sit. I made Turkish delight! I’ve been planning to do so for a while now, and finally got around to it. The first time round it wasn’t as nice as I’d hoped for. I used a recipe, and I must say I was not impressed. I sprayed the pan with Spray ‘n Cook, and the Turkish delighted tasted like it so much, that I missed
the real flavour. I hate Spray ‘n Cook. It was also a bit rubbery.
Take two was better, though not completely successful. I replaced half the gelatine with strawberry jelly, which made it taste MUCH better. I also used margarine instead of Spray ‘n Cook, which made it taste like sweets instead of some poisonous gas. The consistency was similar to that of the Turkish delight used in chocolate bars. It was soooooo sticky. Actually to the point that it was messy. It couldn’t be cut into squares, so instead we tried to roll it into balls (with our hands covered in margarine). We then covered the balls with a mixture of corn flour & icing sugar, but they didn’t stay ball-shaped… Instead they went flat
Eventually we decided to roll them again, and immediately cover them with melted chocolate, which worked OK, and tasted awesome – exactly like the stuff you buy in the shops!
I would not recommend it to anyone though – it is a huge mess – lots of dishes, and not worth it if you can buy a 200g slab in the shops for R10!
I also baked. 48 Bread rolls with fillings in – yum. Bacon & Onion, Bacon & Cheese, Feta & Olives, and Plain Cheese – aren’t you proud of me? If you’d like the recipe, please ask me – I just can’t post it here, else I’ll bore the non-bakers
Because I was not at home this weekend, and instead with my boyfriend, I didn’t check my e-mails or blogs for the whole time, and when I checked my old Wordpress blog, I discovered that it had been removed. It was suspended due to violation of terms & conditions. I tried to find out why, what I had done wrong, and got a fairly quick reply, saying that paid posts are not allowed on Wordpress. So for those of you who were thinking about it, don’t even go there. I might get my blog back, but at this stage I’m not really worried about it, as I have this new one, with all the original posts. I’m just thankful that I had exported my posts in time
For now I have to finish up, I’m exhausted.

Its Friday, and ITS MY BIRTHDAY!!! Cool eh?
. Friday birthdays are extra nice, but limited. I had a Friday-Birthday in 1984, 1990, 2001, today in 2007, and the next one will be in 2012. What is your favourite day to have your birthday on?

My day has been good so far though I am at work – I’m looking forward to tonight too – the family is coming over, and I have to still get a few snacks! If I had the time I’d have baked a cake like this one in the picture, isn’t it STUNNING?

And so my holiday has come to an end… We arrived back here at home today after nearly eleven hours on the road. I’m really tired now, but thought I’d first check in to see who’s been visiting, or spamming for that matter. I got A LOT of comments which were spam, and Aksiment didn’t catch them, but hey, no one’s perfect – I was just disappointed to see each comment I thought was new was just another “Great Site!” from “qweqwe“….
My holiday was good. We went to Jeffrey’s Bay, its well known surf territory – beautiful beaches, but freezing cold water! I didn’t even ONCE get into the water. As a matter of fact, we couldn’t even go to the beach each day. J-bay is notorious for its winds (mmm – sounds weird), anyhow, the weather wasn’t great, but I got to wear my bikini 3 times, though I just lay in the sun with it – played frisbee to keep warm!!! Even then the breeze had a bite to it, but it was good to get some fresh air, sunshine and READ. I finished two books this holiday!!! I’m so proud of myself! I finished another book from Karen Kingsbury, and then the “Hundred Years Of Solitude” (By Gabriel García Márquez) which I’ve been reading for quite some time now. I would really suggest that book to anyone – it was such a great read!
I couldn’t avoid the shops, and I did do some shopping too – at the Billabong factory shop, got some nice goodies from there.
The last day (yesterday) we picked up shells – and I brought a whole container back – but it smells like something dead (duh). But they’re so pretty though, so when I have the guts to face the stench, I will wash them, and them varnish them. I’m not a “shell person”, but I figured I might as well try it, I can always throw them away if I don’t like it any more, right? Later on we went to “Oysterbay“, a stunning little town – 20km from civilization, which can only be reached by a dirt road. It has wide white beaches, with the bluest sea, and HUGE dunes. There wasn’t another soul anywhere close – no cars, NO ONE on the beach. There weren’t even ANY footprints!!! Pretty cool, huh? It seems like a real one horse town – there isn’t anything there except a filling station & a tiny shop which sells everything from pancakes to baby powder. So nice to see a place like that again, but I wouldn’t want to LIVE there. Wouldn’t know what to do with myself!
For the rest we played cards till after midnight, watched cricket (*barf* – I read), and just lazed around.
Sorry for not missing my PC too much, but I’m back now, and going to keep you entertained again
Here’s a photo of the beach – not to make you jealous – just to show how beautiful Jeffrey’s is…

Happy Easter to you all!
Have a nice holiday, if you don’t already know, I’m going to the coast again – which means that I’ll only be back in 2 weeks’ time!!!

Enjoy, and see you then

We’re going on the second quarter of this year!!! Good heavens, time really does fly! What do you think about the green? Is it any better than the blue? I know there’s a couple of adjustments that I still need to do, but I don’t have time at the moment. Things are a bit hectic at work – I have a lot of things to finish before I go on leave
I’ll post something more interesting again soon
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Yesterday was good – but having a holiday in the middle of the week like that really throws me off. Usually I have my week kind of planned, but this week things are just upside down. I didn’t do anything much, went to visit my sister, which was really nice, but then I had to head home again, and get ready for today. This morning when my alarm went off, I really didn’t feel like getting up. But here I am, after a long and exhausting day, and I’m almost heading home again.
I’m going to go to bed early again tonight – I’ve been trying to do that lately, since I had trouble sleeping. I figured that an early sleeping routine might help, but still no luck. I’m hoping to finally fall asleep tonight. Most nights I just lay in bed thinking. About nothing really. Sometimes the biggest load of nonsense, but still, I think about it.
Hope those of you who had a day off enjoyed it, I still can’t wait for FRIDAY tomorrow though!!!

Yes its that time of the year again where all the shops are filled with red hearts, and cute fluffly stuffed animals.
Its all such a fuss about nothing, but I reckon if you spend Valentine’s day with that special someone, and you don’t get caught up in the money making scheme it really is, its all good.
I can barely keep my eyes open today, as I was up till midnight last night, making a Valentine’s card
A pretty yellow card with Dumbo on the front (my favourite cartoon character), and a poem inside from one of my favourite Disney movies. But if you know me well, you’d probably know that I’m kidding, else you’d just be thinking WTF? LOL. Anyway, there’s no Dumbo on the front, and neither does it have any sort of poem inside. Its just a plainish card. I’m actually quite proud of myself – I haven’t made card in ages! If you were wondering, the picture on the right hand side is not what my card looks like, its just a pretty picture
I was reading about some people’s Valentine’s days – how they celebrated it, and I found the sweetest stories!!
The one lady made a jar with notes in. On each little not she wrote a reason why she loved her husband. What she appreciates about him, and just sweet little somethings.
Another guy stuck letter cut out of cardboard on the garage doors, saying that he loved his wife.
Strange how even guys can do the weirdest things – totally out of their character. Suppose its all this love in the air.
If you want to read more sweet stories [Or maybe get some ideas for yourself!], I found the above mentioned ones at TheRomantic
Hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day!! Please let me know what you will be up to! I want to hear all the romantic stories

… I suggest that you DON’T take Friday too lazily. Make sure you complete all of your tasks for Friday, and try to fit in some of Monday’s tasks if possible.
… Over the weekend, preferably Sunday afternoon, scan through your diary for any appointments & meetings. The weekend might have been so relaxing that you forgot about your meeting during which you have to report back on the month’s progress. Don’t be caught off guard with things like that. It could worsen your mood for Monday drastically, and be very embarrassing!
… Go to bed early on Sunday night. Get up on time on Monday, have coffee or tea, and breakfast at home. You can’t control things at work, but you can at least start your day right at home.
… Arrange to meet a friend for lunch – its always something to look forward to
… If you struggle to be excited about work, get some personal things for your desk. If you don’t like displaying your family & spouse’s photo, try something like a nice potplant?
… Remember to eat healthy – skipping meals is NOT healthy!! Drink enough water. Most headaches are caused by dehydration!
… Smile at people (in traffic especially), even if they ignore you, you’ll still feel better!
Don’t ever wish for the time to pass quicker. Each moment makes up a tiny part of your life story; Make your story as interesting as you can!
November 20th, 2006 — Dizzy Dee, My Events, My Opinion
A while back I got a traffic fine. Depressing I know, but not as bad as what is to follow. I got the fine on October 12th, 2006 – the date by which it was suppose to be paid was the 8th of October, else I would get a summons. Great!
I then tried to find out where I could pay the fine. My Mom told me that I could do it at Pick ‘n Pay (A local supermarket), which I tried. I went there with the original ticket, and indeed, they said I could pay the fine there. I handed the lady the ticket, and she started looking for the “Easy Pay Reference Number”. She couldn’t find any, this I assumed from her stunned reply: “Eish…” She asked the guy next to her to help her look I assumed, cause she handed the ticket to him, to which he uttered the same astonished “Eish…”
Okay, so my traffic ticket didn’t have an “Easy Pay Number”. This was still okay, as I could also pay it at an FNB ATM. Though I don’t have an FNB account, I know someone at work who does. He tried to do the transfer, at the ATM, but just got a message which said that “The reference number is not recognized.”
By then it was already November, my ticket was due nearly a month ago, another person at work told me that I could pay it at the licensing office, so I decided to go there. When I got there, just after 9am, they sent me away, and told me that I couldn’t pay my ticket until 11am. How bizarre, the staff are working, but traffic fines can only be paid after 11am – at least that’s what the security guard told me. (Note to self: Never believe security guards again).
11am came, and there I was again, and this time the security guard let me in! I went to the front desk to ask the receptionist where I could pay my fine. She looked at me strangely, and then said that I couldn’t pay traffic fines there, that I had to go right into Pretoria city to pay it at the Traffic Department.
Arrrrgh…. If you have any idea what Pretoria city looks like, you’d understand that I was NOT going there. Not even to pay a traffic fine.
A third person at work suggested that I mailed the ticket with a postal order to the Traffic Department. I decided that this was a fool proof method, which would also save me time, effort and frustration. I could definately do without frustration. I went to the post office, filled everything out, got a postal order, put it in an envelope with the ticket, and sent it as a registered letter. I even got the tracking slip with a referrence number. GREAT! This was two weeks ago.
Today, in my mail, guess what I found? A slip for a registered letter? Upon opening it I found MY TICKET & POSTAL ORDER. Noooo……….. It has come back to haunt me? The wonderful South African postal service has failed to notice the difference between the “To” and “From” addresses, and sent the letter to me instead of to the Traffic Department. Can you believe it? That is so pathetic? They work with envelopes everyday of their lives, and STILL THEY MAKE MISTAKES LIKE THIS?? How can that be excusable? I didn’t know how stupid these people were till today.
I had it all sent back ofcourse. I hope it reaches its destination before I’m summoned, or locked up!! Hopefully the administration at the Traffic Department is as bad as that of the Post Office. Maybe if they made it a bit easier to pay fines, they wouldn’t have to go around arresting people for outstanding fines!
Sad to see that MOST South African government services are so careless and clueless…

For those of you who read my previous post (the protected post), you’ve already read a bit about my weekend away. For those of you who haven’t read the post, you can e-mail me if you want the password. I’m happy to give it to my friends & regular readers – its just not the kind of information I want to share with some of the creeps on the internet.
Well, last weekend we went awayto Watervalboven. We stayed there in a cabin on a trout farm, or lodge – whatever… Though we don’t do trouting, we did go for a 15km hike to a waterfall, which was pretty awesome. The water was clear, like it always is, and also FREEZING cold. I wasn’t brave enough to dip in, but my boyfriend managed to spend a full 5 seconds in the water – 4 diving in, and 1 second, almost walking on the water to get out. I’ve never seen someone get so cold… The whole weekend was just so relaxing – we didn’t have electricity (at least we had running water), so we ended up braaiing & snacking on fruit and stuff. We had to make a fire to heat up our shower water (otherwise known as a donkey). Also the shower & toilet was outside. This was pretty scary as I had to go pee all alone one night. The wind was blowing, and it had just rained earlier, so there were frogs and snails and who knows what else walking & jumping around. With my over-active imagination I also picutured snakes and spiders and who knows what other creature. I actually once saw a bat, in day light!! It was hiding in the logs that made up the wall of the toilet. It looked pretty innocent, but still – not my favourite type of animal. I got some nice photo’s – specially of the Monday morning’s sunrise. Everything was just so clear and clean and amazing.
Here are some of the photo’s of our hike!

To see the full set of photo’s visit my Flickr “Holiday Photo’s” You’ll see that I’ve created a new account with Flickr as my other one is full, and I don’t want to upgrade.
