Waterless & Furious

I’m slightly irritated today. Our office has been without water since yesterday, and if you think a power cut was bad, consider not being able to FLUSH your toilets! Even worse, try imagining a whole building full of women, sharing three toilets, and not being able to flush. Its a disaster.

Our company bought mineral water to drink and make coffee with, but still, there’s no way of washing the dishes, washing your hands (after going to the filthy bathrooms), and there’s no way to clean ANYTHING in the office if you spilt something!

I can’t imagine why its taking them so long to fix a burst water pipe. Surely for situations like this there are people who ought to work nightshift to try and fix it? I really don’t understand why it has to take them more than 24hours? I saw the hole they dug, to fix the pipe, but there isn’t even anyone there, working on it?! :(

Header with bride and groomOn a more positive note, you might not have noticed my new header image, as Kirstyn pointed out, she only saw it this week, and its been up for about a month! Hehehe… ;) If you still can’t see the bride & groom image on the header, try to refresh my blog with Ctrl+F5.

I was actually looking for a wedding Wordpress theme, but couldn’t find one that appealed to me. Most of them were very old fashioned, and reminded me a bit of a funeral - with the faded roses and all.

Just a reminder, I’ve only got 23 days left before I’m getting married - that just a bit more than 550 hours! :D

A Wedding Wordpress Theme?

I’m looking for a temporary theme for my blog - something with a wedding theme. Any ideas? For Wordpress Themesthose of you looking for free Wordpress themes, have a look at ThemeBot, they have some great themes - though nothing wedding like yet. I’ll keep looking though!

No More Sticky Posts!!!

Sticky posts are boring and irritate the living daylights out of me. I have tried it now, and I can tell you that it seriously sucks. If you were considering it, its dumb. It looks as if you don’t update your blog, and it doesn’t help much. I have made a link for the top of my widget instead which now links to the competition for the Rooibos tea.  The only purpose I see for it, is if you move your blog.  But then again, you wouldn’t need a sticky post, cause you wouldn’t post anymore…

Hope you all have a fabulous week!

Baby Language Expert: Priscilla Dunstan

Dunstan Group

For millions of sleep-deprived mothers around the world, this woman’s findings could be a miracle! Priscilla Dunstan, a mom from Australia with a special gift, says she’s unlocked the secret language of babies.

When Priscilla was a toddler, her parents discovered she had a photographic memory for sound. At age 4, she could hear a Mozart concert on the piano and play it back note for note.

Priscilla says her gift has helped her hear a special “second language” beyond English, allowing her to detect moods and even diagnose illnesses! “Other people might hear a note but I sort of get the whole symphony,” Priscilla says. “So when someone’s speaking, I get all this information that other people might not pick up.”

That mysterious second language took on an astounding new meaning when Priscilla became a mother to her baby, Tom. “Because of my gift for sound, I was able to pick out certain patterns in his cries and then remember what those patterns were later on when he cried again,” Priscilla says. “I realized that other babies were saying the same words.”

Here is the short version:

  • Neh=”I’m hungry”
  • Owh=”I’m sleepy”
  • Heh=”I’m experiencing discomfort”
  • Eair=”I have lower gas”
  • Eh=”I need to burp”

Those “words” are actually sound reflexes, Priscilla says. “Babies all around the world have the same reflexes, and they therefore make the same sounds,” she says. If parents don’t respond to those reflexes, Priscilla says the baby will eventually stop using them.

Priscilla recommends that parents listen for those words in a baby’s pre-cry before they start crying hysterically. She says there is no one sound that’s harder to hear than others because it varies by individual. She also says some babies use some words more than others.

The Dunstan Baby Language DVD is currently available. Visit www.dunstanbaby.com to order your copy.

And NO, I do not have children, I just find this extremely interesting. I was an au pair for a while, but for babies who were talking / starting to talk. It’d be interesting to try this out though, so those of you with babies, let me know if it works please? :)

In Desperate Need Of Another Weekend

My weekend started last week Wednesday, hence the reason I didn’t blog much lately.
I took the three days off word because my boyfriend had to go in for an operation, and thus it wasn’t really a holiday, but I’m still glad I took the time off. I’d have hated to go through something like that on my own.
He had a minor foot opp - just mending the ligaments again, but he’s foot is in a cast for six weeks now! Pity, cause its exactly in the time that Fall Out Boy and UB40 are in South Africa! (Damn it!)

I spent Wednesday & Thursday in the hospital with him, but on Friday he came home, so then I could actually do something more than just sit. I made Turkish delight! I’ve been planning to do so for a while now, and finally got around to it. The first time round it wasn’t as nice as I’d hoped for. I used a recipe, and I must say I was not impressed. I sprayed the pan with Spray ‘n Cook, and the Turkish delighted tasted like it so much, that I missed Lost Sheepthe real flavour. I hate Spray ‘n Cook. It was also a bit rubbery.
Take two was better, though not completely successful. I replaced half the gelatine with strawberry jelly, which made it taste MUCH better. I also used margarine instead of Spray ‘n Cook, which made it taste like sweets instead of some poisonous gas. The consistency was similar to that of the Turkish delight used in chocolate bars. It was soooooo sticky. Actually to the point that it was messy. It couldn’t be cut into squares, so instead we tried to roll it into balls (with our hands covered in margarine). We then covered the balls with a mixture of corn flour & icing sugar, but they didn’t stay ball-shaped… Instead they went flat :(
Eventually we decided to roll them again, and immediately cover them with melted chocolate, which worked OK, and tasted awesome - exactly like the stuff you buy in the shops!
I would not recommend it to anyone though - it is a huge mess - lots of dishes, and not worth it if you can buy a 200g slab in the shops for R10!

I also baked. 48 Bread rolls with fillings in - yum. Bacon & Onion, Bacon & Cheese, Feta & Olives, and Plain Cheese - aren’t you proud of me? If you’d like the recipe, please ask me - I just can’t post it here, else I’ll bore the non-bakers :P

Because I was not at home this weekend, and instead with my boyfriend, I didn’t check my e-mails or blogs for the whole time, and when I checked my old Wordpress blog, I discovered that it had been removed. It was suspended due to violation of terms & conditions. I tried to find out why, what I had done wrong, and got a fairly quick reply, saying that PayPerPost isn’t allowed on Wordpress. So for those of you who were thinking about it, don’t even go there. I might get my blog back, but at this stage I’m not really worried about it, as I have this new one, with all the original posts. I’m just thankful that I had exported my posts in time :)

For now I have to finish up, I’m exhausted.

Patience Is A Virtue?

Funky Dude - By KoffiekittenDamn I don’t think I’m very virtuous :(

I’m one of the most impatient people I know. Like now I can’t wait until this blog is up and running like my previous one was.

If you noticed my old blog is unavailable, its because Wordpress decided to close it down. Luckily I was in the process of getting this one ready, so I wasn’t caught too off guard - I just had to rush things a bit. I think I finally got a theme? Tell me what you think about it. I needed something different than the normal Wordpress themes, but with a sidebar which at least displays my blogroll.

Now I’m kinda comfy here, except that hardly anyone has been around. It’d be nice to know that you guys found me again? I miss your comments!

For those of you who’d like to swap links, please leave me a comment!!

Yeah, I know, dumb title, but who cares? :P
Its time for bed, and I’m fussing with all kinds of things. First I got an app on my phone to do VOIP. I then got Twitter to work from my phone, just had to figure it out though. And now I’m posting to Wordpress from my phone! Cool hey? I’m now fully mobile!!

I really need to go to bed now. Can’t stop yawning. Night for now

Weirdest Keywords

My desks a mess as always and I worked till nearly dark tonight - mind you that wasn’t very hard as winter is approaching & it was raining.

Purely for Slicksumbich’s amusement I’m posting today’s key words.

Weird Search Key Word

I found the last one especially freaky - I had to look that up on urbandictionary.com, after which I realized how obvious it actually was… GROSS!!! Goes to show what kind of SICK people are out there!! (With us on the net!)

Kulula staff hijacking eggs” also caught my attention - by the way, Kulula is a South African airline… AND THEY HAVEN’T HIJACKED EGGS!!!

Take care of yourselves - watch out for all the freaks on the net!

G’night…

New Kids On The Blog

I’ve been going through the wordpress blogs today. Some are incredibly boring and don’t sometimes even make sense. Others are quite good. Most don’t have any comments at all. On any of their posts, and yet they still keep posting! I feel sorry for those. Those that put in so much effort, just to find that no one has discovered them yet.
I remember when I first started (I started because I joined BlogMad, and didn’t have a decent blog), there wasn’t a lot of visitors, and often I’d get discouraged. There are still a couple of my favourite posts from when I started which didn’t get much attention. For those of you who’ve been blogging a while, keep it coming. One day someone like me will find your blog, and leave you your very first comment. For those of you who are so comfortably settled in your blogging clique, make an effort to welcome the new ones. They’re putting in a lot of effort, and there are a couple of promising blogs out there!
Below I’ve made screenshots of five “new” blogs which I found pretty cool. If you have the time, visit them, otherwise you can go and find your own new blogs :)

Whatever you decide, remember to be kind to the new kids on the blog ;)

Are You SPAM?

junk mail. by ~savagelullabyI just did the normal rounds on my own blog. Answering all the comments, and after commenting about 6 times or so, my comments got chucked in the SPAM folder? Spam
Suppose its a safety feature of Wordpress, but I found it rather annoying to see that after I had posted a comment for the second time, it didn’t show up. Then it struck me, check the SPAM folder, and “TA-DA“, there my comments were!!!

So if your comments aren’t showing up on my site, please e-mail me about it? I’ll make sure to “de-spam” your comment(s). If you don’t mail me about it, it might just get trashed along with the other SPAM comments, as I get hundreds of those per day. :(
