I’ve been thinking back tonight. Waaay back. When I was still playing with my nephews. Dressing them up as clowns and the easter bunny. I suppose I was probably the meanest (and most fun) aunt anyone could ever ask for
I have three nephews who are very close in age. The oldest two are only 7 years younger than me, and strangely enough, we played together like brothers and sister. I made them dress up, put make up on them to make them look like clowns, and play all kinds of games. We pretended to be a circus, and did all kinds of shows with tricks and what not (sometimes trying to include my cat, but I don’t remember that ever being successful).
I made them play school with me being the teacher. Still they loved it, as did I. I remember one time specifically I dressed my one nephew as the easter bunny. Complete with purple and white striped socks that went up all the way to his thigh. As if that wasn’t enough, he also got stocking over his head – the legs stuffed with whatever I could find to make them look like ears. And make up smeared over the stocking part that covered his face. The funniest of all this was that the other two nephews actually believed it was the easter bunny!!
When we talk about it now they still tell me what a horrible aunt I was, but its all in good humor. Its such fond memories for me. I wish we could’ve had photo’s of those times! The older two are turning 18 this year, and the younger one 16. One of the older ones is writing is SAT’s end of January, and he’s already got his driver’s license too. It seems so strange – a lifetime ago. Here they are starting their lives on their own, and I’m getting married. Its a pity we live so far apart – I wish we could spend more time together. I’m still thankful for the family members that are around, but I can’t help to miss them. At least one of the nephews is still around, and we see each other quite regularly – we get along really well. Just strange how things change without us noticing. All of a sudden when you wipe your eyes out, everyones around you has grown up, and you’ve grown old.
