Flu

AchooDespite the fact that I take a daily dose of vitamin C and cod liver oil, the flu still got me. I'm at home, and I feel totally miserable. I slept for a couple of hours, but now my muscles are just too sore to stay in bed. I've have some anti oxidant that my Mom gave me, and also a flu mixture but still I feel horrible. I did not go for the flu vaxination, just because I don't know if it really works. Have any of you tried it? And have you been sick yet? I read up about flu earlier, and I found this pretty interesting:
Wash your hands
Flu is passed on by droplet infection. You can contract it if you shake hands with someone who has the virus, sneezed into their hand and you touch your mouth, eyes or nose. So wash your hands often and don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Also, don’t sneeze into your hand. Rather sneeze into a tissue, or turn your head away from people near you and sneeze into your elbow.

Recommended Homeopathic Immune Boosters
* Oscillococcinum flu granules are of particular value to people susceptible to flu. They help prevent infection and can also be used to relieve symptoms like aches, pains, fever and chills.
* Echnicea is a herbal medicine that protects and treats while boosting the immune system. Echinecea Forte is an extra-strength version available Dis-Chem.
* Propolis assists the body in reinforcing the immune system, improving resistance to disease, accelerating the healing process and acting as a natural antibiotic.
* Plant Sterols and Sterolins restore and stimulate the functioning of the immune system.
* Zinc lozenges boost the immune system. Use with the first sign of a cold.
* L-Lysine aids in destroying viruses in and around the mouth and prevents cold sores
* Olive Leaf extract is a strong immune booster, with antibiotic and antiviral properties

Thanks for the hint ;) I have some echinacea that I’m taking already, and some green tea too. Trying to keep up with the water, but Its not easy hey, I hate drinking water. For the rest I try to stay in bed, and visit here when I have a break. Thanks though — Will try Vit. C and the Zinc thingies :) Ciao…

Flu vaccines work upon two conditions: 1) you are vaccinated before the flu season (or early during)so your body has enough time to develop antibodies. 2) Your body is invaded by a virus strain that you are immunized against by the vaccine for that year. The flu vaccine contains three of the most common virus strains that are ciruculating in a particular year. So if you get hit by any strain other than the ones chosen for the vaccine, you may develop flu symptons, or what we commonly consider as being sick.

Vitamin C, Zinc, and Echinacea (to some extent) help reduce the severity of flu symptons. At this point though, you need rest, water (chicken soup, pedialyte), and tylenol.

Hope you feel better soon.
