Just something that I found while browsing, and found it rather depressing since I love coffee so much. It was worth reading though, as I’ve only had 2 cups of coffee today, instead of the normal 5 – don’t know how long it will last though. What was more interesting to me is the fact that decaf is also bad for you. Also I always knew that caffeine was bad, I never knew the exact symptoms…
If you’re at work right now, look around you. How many people in the office need their coffee fix in the morning? And for their morning “tea” break, and of course after lunch as well. The first fix is so that they can “get going”, the second just revs them up another gear, and the third is to “pick them up” after a sluggish post-lunch feeling. And the day isn’t even over.
So if you’re one of those people, take a look at some alarming facts about coffee that may leave you feeling worse than what you felt like before that first cup.
Caffeine’s addictive properties utilises the same mechanisms as amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin.
- It promotes anxiety, mood swings, irritability, and depression.
- It exhausts the adrenal glands.
- It increases the risk of arterial inflammation and the incidence of heart attacks by some 30%.
And decaf has its own problems:
- Studies prove it raises LDL cholesterol levels
- It promotes fat build up in the liver
And decaf is not nocaf. Each cup contains about 7 mg of caffeine. Have 6 cups a day, and you’re up over 40 mg of caffeine a day.
Most decaf is made using solvents such as methylene chloride, which are poisonous.
And both kinds of coffee:
- Deplete calcium from the body
- Flush out the water soluble vitamins, including vitamin C and most of the B’s
- Cause stomach disorders including acid reflux and ulcers

But that’s only true if you abuse on coffee. I’ve been drinking one cup a day, for years, every morning, and I haven’t noticed any bad effects on my health. The fact is I do have a good diet, ovo-lacto-vegetarian plus fish (omega 3) and that alone should help to keep a good healthy balance… regarding all of those vitamins, calcium and stuff you mentioned you lose by drinking coffeee, the thing is: simply by walking, running, or even thinking and breathing you are already losing them…. i think it’s just a matter of keeping a smart balance. Life is meant to kill us anyway.
you can do better than this today. I expected more….
i’m thinking about adding ya to the links.
sell me
Post what you want, you don’t have to sell me on anything. It really is all about balance and moderation though. If you love coffe, drink it! 5 cups may be excessive though :p I remember seeing something recently about a study showing coffee counters the liver damage done by alcohol, but I don’t remember the exact details.
what an ass kiss
wow
anyway….you owe me a response.

Mmmmm…. No wonder i *heart* coffee so much =D
trivia: currently averaging 2 cups a day… down from 5-6… >_
Well, here I sit, a fellow South African (are you?? Just came across your blog!) with a cup of black, strong, well-caffeinated coffee!! Nooo …. recently the Food Police decided coffee was gooood for us! Contains anti-oxidants, perks you up, wriggle the ole brain cells.
What IS bad is that I’m having it with a brownie of the worst possible type, the “add 1/2 cup milk, whizz and bake” type full of transfatty acids …
Just today there’s a report in a paper which says if women drank more coffee they will be less inclined to develop diabetes …
Actually, we have no bloody idea what the Food Police will say about coffee next week.
I’ll add your blog to my links. I have few visitors as I don’t seem to hit the right note with readers. I do not even UNDERSTAND the teen blogs!!
Good thing I hate the taste of coffee then!
