The handling of these bulbs is hazardous, more so keeping in mind that children may also be exposed.

In terms of Article 10 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act Eskom had a legal obligation to inform users of the low energy bulbs of the dangers thereof. This was not done and any person who suffered an injury related to the use of these bulbs may take them on on the basis of this Article.

I’ve noticed that me and my father’s eczema has noticeably been getting worse the last couple years… about the same time we started replacing almost every bulb in our house to the energy saving kind…

I believe they are quite safe with standard precautions. Of course you don’t want to break them and you should turn them into a recycling center rather than disposing of spent bulbs in your trash. They are quite efficient and long lasting.

Interesting! I was recently, or should say am just recently, considering putting those bulbs up in every lamp and fixture in my house. I think I may reconsider. They do save energy, according to friends, but if they’re dangerous, I’m not sure it’s worth the difference in cost. I’ll have to look a little deeper! Thanks for the heads up!
