News From A Beach Bum

And so my holiday has come to an end… We arrived back here at home today after nearly eleven hours on the road. I’m really tired now, but thought I’d first check in to see who’s been visiting, or spamming for that matter. I got A LOT of comments which were spam, and Aksiment didn’t catch them, but hey, no one’s perfect – I was just disappointed to see each comment I thought was new was just another “Great Site!” from “qweqwe“….

My holiday was good. We went to Jeffrey’s Bay, its well known surf territory – beautiful beaches, but freezing cold water! I didn’t even ONCE get into the water. As a matter of fact, we couldn’t even go to the beach each day. J-bay is notorious for its winds (mmm – sounds weird), anyhow, the weather wasn’t great, but I got to wear my bikini 3 times, though I just lay in the sun with it – played frisbee to keep warm!!! Even then the breeze had a bite to it, but it was good to get some fresh air, sunshine and READ. I finished two books this holiday!!! I’m so proud of myself! I finished another book from Karen Kingsbury, and then the “Hundred Years Of Solitude” (By Gabriel García Márquez) which I’ve been reading for quite some time now. I would really suggest that book to anyone – it was such a great read!

I couldn’t avoid the shops, and I did do some shopping too – at the Billabong factory shop, got some nice goodies from there.

The last day (yesterday) we picked up shells – and I brought a whole container back – but it smells like something dead (duh). But they’re so pretty though, so when I have the guts to face the stench, I will wash them, and them varnish them. I’m not a “shell person”, but I figured I might as well try it, I can always throw them away if I don’t like it any more, right? Later on we went to “Oysterbay“, a stunning little town – 20km from civilization, which can only be reached by a dirt road. It has wide white beaches, with the bluest sea, and HUGE dunes. There wasn’t another soul anywhere close – no cars, NO ONE on the beach.  There weren’t even ANY footprints!!!  Pretty cool, huh? It seems like a real one horse town – there isn’t anything there except a filling station & a tiny shop which sells everything from pancakes to baby powder. So nice to see a place like that again, but I wouldn’t want to LIVE there. Wouldn’t know what to do with myself!

For the rest we played cards till after midnight, watched cricket (*barf* – I read), and just lazed around.

Sorry for not missing my PC too much, but I’m back now, and going to keep you entertained again ;)

Here’s a photo of the beach – not to make you jealous – just to show how beautiful Jeffrey’s is…

That beach looks great, warm and inviting. It’s nice here today, sun shining and no rain, while the east coast of the U.S. is getting pelted with rain and snow. I’m glad you had a nice vacation.

Awe. I miss the beach so much. I’ll have to check out your book suggestions.

Thank you Beth, it looked like the perfect summer holiday, but it was rather cold – I had to spend time on the beach though. No use driving 1200km, and NOT be on the beach ;)
Heza, its amazing to feel the difference after a nice beach holiday. You should really take some time off and visit the coast ;) – hope you enjoy the books as much as I did!
