An article about two men who drowned first caught my attention because it referred to “swimers“…
Isn’t it funny that they could spell “swimming” correctly, but not “swimmers“…?

No wonder they drowned – they weren’t swimming, they were swiming
This is not the first time that I’ve found a spelling mistake on their website, but it was the first time that I reported it. I know none of us are perfect, and my blog probably has loads of errors too, but I would’ve thought that an online news team would be a bit more careful, and spellcheck more thoroughly.
After I sent them an e-mail they quickly corrected their mistake, however, they only fixed it only on the one page?? If you search for “parys” on news24.com, you will still find the “swimers” article…
I give up!

Good catch. Maybe they’ll be more careful in the future.
LOL!!
News24 were caught out there, but in my humble opinion, there is NOBODY worse at spelling than the people at E-TV.
I seriously think they employ chimps to just hammer the keyboard that is linked to the computer that sends news headlines to the scrolling bar at the bottom of the television screen. Its even worse when they have it on the kids programme that has subtitles translating for the others…
I wish I could say that this is a South African problem, but since it became politically incorrect to FAIL kids, the education worldwide has gone down the tubes.
I think bad spelling is now found in epidemic proportions!
Eish, eet is beecuase wee do not know what a spellchecker ees… is it something you get at Checkers?
Sometimes the Beeb has real howlers as well. When they get their facts all wrong is when I really freak.
There was an article about Titanium and Marble being found near Kranskop in KZN, and the frikken report claims that Chaka’s ironsmiths used it in making spears… clearly no idea how Titanium gets extracted at all. Using the ore in a charcoal setup would give you Titanium Carbide… rock hard blocks of stuff that is used for sandpaper! Now a simple lookup on Wiki would have revealed that claim by the reporters source as completely bogus!
ROB: I hate the BBC- its proof of how dangerous Political Correctness and multi-culturalism can be.
Hey gorgeous!
Heck I know there are a few on my blog but I decided that it’s not the end of the world. Doesn’t mean I don’t reread what I write and make an effort to find new and interesting topics but this is not my paying job.
Glad you came back!

That’s great. I tend not to get worked up about typos (assuming it was…if they really didn’t know how to spell it…damn) but when you’re whole business is communications…come on!
I never learned to swime, but I know folks who claim to have swame. I still don’t know what that is. I think I’ll go back to writting soon.
It’s not uncommon for me to find spelling errors in the local newsprint
