African Wedding

Getting married in sunny Africa may seem like a very romantic idea to most, but especially so for two German kiddies, who decided to elope to Africa – “where its warm”.

Two German children – aged five and six – have been stopped by police from eloping to Africa to tie the knot in the sun, reports say.

The budding lovebirds, identified as Mika and Anna-Lena, packed bathing costumes, sunglasses and a lilo and headed for the airport.

They even had the presence of mind to invite along an official witness – Anna-Lena’s seven-year-old sister.

The three got as far as Hanover railway station before police intervened.

The young couple were “very much in love” and had decided to get married in Africa “where it is warm”, police spokesman Holger Jureczko told the AFP news agency.

Sun-seekers

The idea for the getaway wedding was born as the children’s families celebrated New Year’s eve together and Mika regaled the two girls with stories of a recent holiday to Italy.

The following morning, as their parents slept, the intrepid trio walked 1km (0.6 miles) to the local tram station at Langenhagen, where they hopped aboard a tram for Hanover central station.

But the group aroused the suspicion of a guard as they waited for a train to the airport, and police were called in.

Officers persuaded the children they would not get far without tickets and money, but consoled them with a free tour of the police station, where they were shortly picked up by relieved parents.

Although any marriage plans have been put on hold for now, police did not altogether rule out the possibility of an African wedding.

“They can still put their plan into action at a later date,” AFP quoted the spokesman as saying.

Warming Up…

Summer has really started in SA now… I wish I was sure that it would stay for good, but I have a feeling that we’re still going to experience some winter.
At the moment the weather is fantastic, not too hot during the day, and really pleasant night temperatures. Tonight is one of those nights when I wish I could be outside, having a braai, and sipping on a glass of wine.
Instead I’m in the office working on a very urgent project. I’m not the only one here, but its not asif that makes it better. I’d much rather have been home alone even!

I’ve been craving blogging so much, and every now and again I get inspired, but then something always comes up, and I end up postponing.
I hope to be writing something decent soon, but I’ve been saying that for how long now? Life just doesn’t seem to calm down – I’m ALWAYS hectically busy with one thing or another, and whenever I get a break, I’m so tired that I just flop down on the bed and read for a while.

I’m ecstatic about the weekend, nothing much planned, but I love spending time at home :)

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

African News: Woman Gives Birth To Teacups?!

According to News24.com, a Mozambican woman gave birth to three teacups, Stv aparantly showed photographs of the crockery which the woman gave “birth” to.

The 18 year old woman was 3 months pregnant when she started complaining of labour pains, and gave birth to the three cups on her way to the hospital.

Quoting News24:

The Mozambican association of traditional healers (Ametramo) told the station that there was nothing strange about the story.

Ametramo president Aulerio Demoraz said similar cases had occurred in other parts of the world due to witchcraft.

He said the woman needed to be treated with traditional medicines in order to exorcise the “evil spirits” which made her give birth to the cups.

I’ve been looking for pictures of the cups, but unfortunately couldn’t find any. I’ll post an update when I do get a photograph of it…

Now I Know What I Wanted To Post!

Pity its almost bed time!!! I wanted to tell you – specially the international readers…

I still get shocked by things that happen in South Africa – even though I live here.

Someone told me today, (and you might scold me for being so naive) , but there are really people in South Africa who sell their babies. Even sell them in pieces. Why you might ask? Selling organs on the black market? Nope. They sell them to the sangoma’s (traditional healers), who use them in the muti (medicine type potions).

This is absolutely horrifying, and not something that I deal with in my culture, but this is something that is relatively common in black cultures in South Africa. Its not like all black people do this, but they at least know about it.

As for myself, I knew that the sangoma’s brew muti with body parts, but never thought that it went as far as this. Its cannibalism and just sheer insanity.

I find it revolting.

Lucky Luke’s Horse?

Lucky LukeWhat was the name of Lucky Luke’s horse? I am 99% sure that I’m correct in saying that it was Jolly, but still people argue with me… Anyone else got any ideas?

I can still remember this cartoon’s theme song… LOL

It was definitely one of my favourites, that, along with Moomin. Loved it! :D
