Lost In Translation
A website which translates through different languages, and definitely proves how context is completely lost from one language to the next. I tested this with a simple phrase “My boss sucks” (suggested by a co-worker, not myself :D , and after translating through other languages and back to English, it came out as “My proprietor absorbs” – hehe.  Definitely worth a try.

5 Minute Game
Miniclip offers a wide variety of games to pass the time.  There’s a whole section with all the “5-Minute Games” which you can try out!

Credit Cards Online

I’ve found it rather interesting to know that there are now companies that rate your credit card. Online. Whilst you’re doing a transaction online. What basically happens is that they compare various bits of information of the person logged into the specific site, to that which is associated with the credit card, at the bank which its registered.

Basically, this would stop people from using other people’s credit cards, and they will only be allowed to use their own. If all your details are matched, you can pretty easily get a really low score (which is good). But if for instance your credit card is regsitered in the US, you registered your account for the specific online service in Bulgaria, and your IP is in Mauritius, then your credit card will be a “bad credit card“, and you it will get a really high score, which might prevent your transaction from being processed.

This is to ensure that you don’t commit fraud. Which is fair. But now, you might be using a credit card like in the above scenario without being a fraud. In that case, you’ll have to prove it though, afterwhich you will be white listed.

I never realized there was so much politics behind the scenes, but I find it really interesting though.

So if your credit card is declined somewhere online, and you’re not a fraud, feel free to contact their customer support and explain the situation. If they are confident that you’re telling the truth, they will white list your card, and you’ll be able to use it.

Eight Seconds & Counting…

RodeoYou might be asking “What chick in her right mind can write a post about rodeo?”, but here I am! I never thought I would be able to tolerate the sport – never mind enjoy it! That was before I started reading a book, which revolved around a couple of which the man was a rodeo champ. I loved that book so much, and you might recall my post about it!

This book got me honestly interested in this bizarre sport for which people risk their lives, and I’ve started watching this on TV. Its simply amazing how, after their few seconds of sheer adrenaline, they graciously slide off the bull, and then stand next to the rampaging beast as if its something completely normal.

For those of you who are passionate about rodeo, you can find National Rodeo Finals tickets online for quite a reasonable price. I would love to go see a real live rodeo show, but even if I get the tickets for a bargain, I’d still have to pay for my plane tickets, accomodation etc. Which makes it really ridiculously expensive. But. If I have the change, while touring the US, I would definitely want to see it with my own two eyes.

Finding The Right Hotel

When traveling abroad, I usually look for Cheap Hotels – just because I cannot see why I should pay for an expensive hotel, while I spend all my time traveling in any case. Now I’m not talking about a hotel which cockroaches are crawling out from underneath your bed, but I’m not talking about a hotel with gold plated taps either!

If you’re looking to book a hotel online, before you start your travels, have a look at the sites which offer online hotel booking, you can find hotels on there that have a good reputation, but you might also need to get a home loan to afford staying in one! Maybe its different if you’re earning dollars or pounds, but here’s what I found:

When checking the availability of a hotel, you will see that the price is also provided. For interest sake, I checked a hotel in my area, a suite for two people, bed and breakfast included, was $1482.99 – for ONE night. What?!?! That is just sooo ridiculous!!

Now, I know what the prices are like in South Africa, but for ‘innocent’ tourists, this might seem like the norm – after all, there are quite a couple of hotels which are priced like this – specially to rip off tourists.

If you ever want to travel to South Africa, you’re more than welcome to ask me what a reasonable price would be to pay for a hotel.
