Have You Heard About LifeGem?

This morning I heard something WEIRD on the radio, and was really intrigued in the story, so I googled for it. Personally I think this is disgusting. But I suppose people have diffferent ways of dealing with the death of a loved one, of which this is one I suppose.

What is LifeGem? Its a company which makes diamonds from the cremated remains of humans.
After a person has been cremated they put the ashes under pressure for a certain period of time, and voila, you have a diamond.

Here’s their version of what and who they are:
“The LifeGem® is a certified, high-quality diamond created from the carbon of your loved one… as a memorial to their unique life. As a symbol of your personal and precious bond.”

To me this is a little disturbing… Maybe I’m just very conventional? Somethings just soooo eerie about it…

Yes I have heard of this. I watched an article on this on one of our current affairs programmes. I found it interesting, but to be honest couldn’t see me taking it any further than just knowing about it…..who knows sometimes people and situations change and sometimes we find ourselves doing things we wouldn’t ordinarily be doing…..

hmm … i kinda like this idea … better than the stickers i keep seeing on cars saying that the car is a memorial for the person

of course the concept of cremation actually scares me more than death, so what do i know? ;)

That is very cool..especially since a very good friend of mine who recently passed..ashes are now with me. I’ve been at a loss as to what to do..what she would have wanted..this is something I know she would find the humor in. Congrats on still being at 25peeps.com..way to go girl! I’m still clicking you.

I guess that is one way to remember the person. My dad just passed away and I really dont think I would be able to do that to him.

I dont find that as disturbing as a friend of mine who actually has her childrens baby teeth made into jewelry. she has a set of earings, a necklase and a ring…all with her kids teeth

I hadn’t heard of this but I love the idea. I’ll have to look into it for later (hopefully much later) use.

I think it’s an awesome idea. Not only is it meaningful, but it’s just plain cool to be able to tell someone you’re wearing a dead person. I’ve got a twisted sense of humor. :P

Personally I think it’s awesome. I told my hubby that I wanted to be turned into a diamond someday. He said the sweetest thing, I won’t bore you with it. I may just have to post about this.

Hi, Danette!

It reminds me of “Star Trek”, because, I confess, it sounds like alien talk to me:

“Let us make diamonds out off these … carbon units!”.

Greetings from Portugal

My ex once referred to me as a millstone around her neck. This would please her I’m sure.
