Nandos had a streak of really good ones, I think it was right after the one about the seeing-eye dog that upset some people.

The ones with Rash and Rashtoo (sp) for corsa lite are classic most of the time.

Tom I think you’ve got a point. A lot of adverts these days are really bad, but so are some of the shows on TV!!

Dizzy, some of those adverts are tested on the public in small groups or in specific geographical areas but it is amazing how many bad ones get out there…Also I think ads are sometimes better than the shows they put out there for us to watch..

The Peroni ad is a homage to Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (1960), the movie that spawned the word “paparazzi”. Presumably the advertisers are selling the beer on its Italian style and heritage. Peroni: the beer for posers.

I know exactly which ad you’re talking about, only I thought it was mineral water. An ad’s job is to grab your attention from between the five other ads that were on before it. Ads like the Peroni one are meant to do that too, but they don’t create a lasting impression of whatever they’re trying to sell, just of the ad.

As for how they get approved, I’d say it’s because the board of directors, as you put it, have no eye for these types of things. They’re bankers and lawyers. “People with no light in their eyes” as Hunter Thompson so accurately put it.

Nah, it makes sense A number of adverts these days (at least in SA) are ridiculous. But I guess there isn’t much we can do about that except wonder what sort of creative mentality (or lack thereof) these people have.
